What is Psi Chi?

Psi Chi is the International Honor Society in Psychology, dedicated to recognizing and promoting excellence in psychology through academic achievement, research, and professional development.

What does NYU Psi Chi do?

At NYU, Psi Chi connects students with psychology-related opportunities, including research, networking, and professional development. We host guest lectures, workshops, community service initiatives, and social events that foster academic and career growth.

Who can join NYU Psi Chi?

Psi Chi is open to undergraduate and graduate students in psychology or psychology-related programs who meet specific academic and engagement criteria. Faculty members are also welcome to join.

Membership & Eligibility

When do membership applications open?

General membership applications open at the start of every semester (Fall and Spring). Updates regarding applications are shared via Instagram (@nyupsichi), our website, and our mailing list.

What are the requirements to join NYU Psi Chi?

Undergraduate Students:

  • Be enrolled as a major or minor in psychology or a psychology-related program (e.g., CAMS, Applied Psychology, graduate student programs).
  • Be at least a second-semester sophomore and have completed four psychology courses (three can be CAMS).
  • If applying based on one PSYCH-UA course, you must have earned at least an A- in that course.
  • Have a minimum 3.75 GPA in psychology courses and a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25.

Graduate Students:

  • Be accepted into and enrolled in a psychology or closely related graduate program.
  • Have completed at least 9 semester credit hours of graduate psychology courses in that program.
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.75.
  • Meet any additional requirements set by their graduate program (e.g., minimum grades for specific courses).

Common Requirements for All Members: Demonstrate a vested interest in enhancing the academic experience within the university, show a clear commitment to research and/or application of psychological constructs, attend a required application interview, and attend at least one Psi Chi event per semester.

How much does it cost to join Psi Chi?

There is a one-time lifetime membership fee of $60 for the National Psi Chi Society and a one-time NYU Psi Chi local chapter fee of $30.

Is Psi Chi membership for life?

Yes! Once you become a Psi Chi member, your membership is lifetime, and you can continue accessing its benefits even after graduation.

Do I have to be a psychology major to join Psi Chi?

No, but you must be enrolled in a psychology or psychology-related program (e.g., CAMS, Applied Psychology).
