NYU Psi Chi membership is intended for students in psychology or closely related pathways who meet chapter and Psi Chi academic standards. If you are unsure whether your major, minor, or program qualifies, contact the chapter before you apply.

Before you apply

  • Confirm your major, minor, or program relates to psychology or is psychological in nature.
  • Verify you are at least a second-semester sophomore (undergraduate) or have completed 9+ graduate credit hours.
  • Check your cumulative and psychology GPA against the requirements listed below.
  • Join the mailing list or follow @nyupsichi so you catch the application window.
  • Contact the chapter if your pathway is not covered clearly in the eligibility section below.

Eligibility overview

Undergraduate students

  • Be enrolled in psychology or a program psychological in nature.
  • Be at least a second-semester sophomore with four psychology courses completed.
  • Meet the chapter GPA thresholds for psychology coursework and cumulative GPA.
  • Be academically competitive within both the university context and your program.

Graduate students

  • Be enrolled in a psychology or closely related graduate program.
  • Complete at least 9 semester credit hours of graduate psychology coursework.
  • Be within the top 10% of the academic program.
  • Hold at least a 3.75 cumulative GPA and meet any program-specific academic rules.

Shared expectations

  • Demonstrate a real interest in psychology scholarship, research, and/or application.
  • Complete the chapter interview step.
  • Stay engaged with chapter activity after joining.
  • Use chapter communications to track deadlines and updates.

Fees

The chapter currently lists a one-time national Psi Chi fee of $60 and a one-time NYU chapter fee of $30. Membership is intended to be a lifetime Psi Chi membership once accepted and processed.
